TA Teacher Wins $100K Grant

Ferek, a physical education and driver's education teacher, won for her proposal to construct two multi-use trails in back of the high school. Voting was held online from September through November and Ferek was the only person from Virginia to receive the grant.
“I want to say thank you to everyone who voted,” Ferek told her students and company representatives at TAHS. She was surprised with a check during her adaptive P.E. class for students with special needs.
Ferek designed the trails with her special education classes in mind. She wanted a safer way for bicycles, wheelchairs and golf carts, for her driving classes, to move around the school’s playing fields.
“It’s hard not to get behind this program,” said Bill Tibbens, Farmers Insurance manager for government and industry affairs. Tibbens is based in Richmond but came to Bridgewater to present Ferek with her check.
Ferek said she hoped to have the trails finished by the end of the school year.
“But, we’ve got a lot of work to do,” she said.
